The Marguerite Centre is
a 12 bed, long-term residential facility for women
in recovery from addictions and abuse. The
Marguerite Centre believes in the right for women to
recover from their addictions in a safe residential
setting where their unique needs will be met, their
issues addressed and their voices heard. Our
woman-centered, holistic approach to programming
empowers women to create their own path to healing
and recovery. Located in the Halifax Regional
Municipality, the Centre is staffed 24 hours a day.
It is the only facility of its kind for women in
Nova Scotia.
The Marguerite Centre
offers a residential holistic program for women
recovering from addictions and abuse.
-
To provide shelter
and other fundamental living needs in a safe and
tranquil residential setting conducive to
healing;
-
To meet the
individual needs and goals of the women through
our 24-hour in-house counselling support;
-
To provide a
holistic program so that women feel empowered to
understand their addiction(s) and abuse and to
create their own path to recovery and healthy
living;
-
To provide outreach
services to women who have completed the residential program.
-
The Marguerite Centre
is committed to heightening the awareness of private
organizations, individuals and government on the
unique needs of women in recovery and the benefits
derived from holistic healing for individuals,
families and communities.
We partner with other
community agencies which provide services to women
in crisis, recovery and transition.
We advocate for and with
women so that they become aware of and use community
resources which promote healthy living.
The
Importance of Family
The
Marguerite Centre is a safe haven for children to
visit, express, create, heal and enjoy their
relationships with their mothers.
We
accomplish this by:
-
Encouraging visitation opportunities between
children and mothers in recovery
-
Providing support to children and other family
members
-
Working with women to develop positive family
plans and goals
Marguerite Bourgeoys, a
young woman from France, came to Montreal to teach
in 1653. She worked towards the education of women
and children so that their lives would be eased from
the hardships of a new land. Marguerite's
compassion, commitment and vision helped make a
better society in this early settlement.
She founded
a group of women, the Congregation of Notre Dame,
who would share her vision and continue to respond
to the needs of the times.
The Marguerite Centre is
a tribute to this pioneering woman, and we endeavour
to capture her strength and dedication by helping
women and children in need.
